Best Caramel Corn…EVER

OK…before you see the weirdest photo of me I would like to explain. I don't know if it will do any good but I want to try! Last year when I went to Brave Girl Camp they made the most awesome caramel corn. SERIOUSLY AMAZING!!! I made it a few times around Christmas and everyone LOVED it. In fact, no one could stop eating it once it was put out. It may be in fact…sugar crack! So, when Kathy was …

Not What You Are Expecting

I know you are probably waiting for my post on Brave Girl Camp. Sorry…I haven't even uploaded the photos.  Serious. You are probably waiting to see a little sneak peek of my new line coming on MONDAY:-) Sorry…that would require me being ahead of schedule and that doesn't usually happen. As you can imagine my weekend will be very busy. I thought I would give you something today though!!! See how nice I am???!!!! I have been wanting to …

My Love Story {Part One}

My love story began like so many….in a bar:-) OK…it was a restaurant too…which my mom always likes to remind people. I was sitting at the bar with some girlfriends. The most handsome of boys walked in with a group of people. I leaned over to my friends and whispered, "I would like you to meet my future husband." Unbeknownst to me they sent him a beer (on behalf of me). He then came over to thank whomever was responsible …

The Little Things

These are the little things that are making me smile today…   Quick project in the kitchen.  I took the door off and sewed this little linen curtain to go in its place.  I loved the idea so much when I saw it in this beautiful lady's livingroom (under their built in cabinets). My green tea is a little nicer (and I don't miss coffee as much..ok..that is a lie) when I have this cute cozy on my mug.  Because …

Under The Stars

One of our favorite things to do at the end of summer is to have an outdoor movie night. Last year our rainy and cold September didn't allow us to have one.   This year Benjamin wanted an outdoor movie night for his birthday party. (Benjamin getting his glow stick bracelet and then rocking out to the pre-movie music.  There may have been a little Bad To The Bone playing) (as people were arriving getting all set up) Instead of …

A Little Midwest Stroll

There are few things that I miss from growing up in the Midwest as much as the trees! Trees that provided us endless hiding places and shade throughout the hot summers.   Trees that painted the hills with the most gorgeous colors in the fall.   Trees that were my dreaming place.  I can remember many times that I would sit under a tree with my art supplies or journals dreaming of all the things I wanted to become. …

Fresh Off The Farm {coming home}

Every year we travel back to Illinois to spend a few weeks at my parent's farm. This is a place of pure joy for my children! I didn't grow up here.   When my parents told me four years ago that they were going to sell the house I grew up in I cried and cried.  I was quite pathetic about the whole thing.  It was hard for me to let the house go and to realize that my children …

Out To Dry

I grew up in a small town in rural Illinois. I walked to school, to my dad's office in town and everyone knew us (that can be good and bad). Every home was different. There were no subdivisions or track homes. Most yards had a clothesline. All summer we would help my mom hang the clothes, sheets and blankets. It is funny how quickly a memory can come back to you! I just remembered the smell and warmth of …

Time To Date Again

An average day is from the moment I wake up I am already thinking of all that NEEDS to be done. Clothes are waiting to go into the washer and waiting to be folded from the dryer. The children are waiting for breakfast. Dishes are waiting to be emptied from the dishwasher. There is usually something spilled on the floor that everyone denies having ANYTHING to do with…and somedays go on like this until it is bedtime and I wonder …

We Are Family…..

I got all my sisters with me We are family Get up everybody and sing I hope this song now is stuck in your head for the rest of the day! Every year Maddy and I have a back to school shopping trip/sleep over to celebrate the start of school. Our big shopping trip with friends is coming up in a few weeks but my sister and I couldn't resist getting our girls together to mark the beginning of school. …

Going, Going, Gone

I interrupt Franceapalooza for a life update. I had to show this cute boy.   He won't be four for a few more weeks and he just learned how to ride his bike without training wheels. That's right….we build them really cool around here! This same super cool kid has been asking for a mohawk for about six months now. I really thought he would forget about it. Change his mind. Move on to something else. Nope. I had told …

French Countryside

Most of us live such a busy life. I feel like our schedule is slower and easier because we homeschool but I wish I could slow it down even more. I admire many of my friends that also have the joy and privilege of owning land, animals and growing so much of what their family eats. My dad always had the biggest garden and we were spoiled by how easily Illinois soil produced abundantly. Even if I never have a hobby …

A Good Way To Get A Tan

Saturday morning was flea market day. If you remember last month you will know that I woke up to pouring rain. The sound of birds chirping at 5 am was a pleasant change this time. My husband and I packed up the truck. He thought I would need to make two trips but I reassured him that with enough bungees and tie downs that I could do it in one trip. I wish I would have taken a photo because …

Packed Weekend

It has been crazy busy around here lately. On Friday I drove with the kids to Ft. Collins to meet up with my friend Courtney. Courtney was on a house hunting trip with her mom and her beautiful daughter. I have known Courtney since I was little.  We both grew up in Illinois and attended the same private school. I am pretty excited because Courtney's super talented husband just took a job here and they will be moving to the …

Strong

When you spend so many years not feeling well you can forget how amazing it is to feel good! The past two months I have not experienced almost any of the health issues I have struggled with for the past eight years. I feel healthy. I feel energized I feel focused. I feel able to give my children the attention they need and deserve. I feel able to accomplish anything. I  Feel strong.

Secret Mission

My husband travels a lot. We are very used to his schedule at this point. When he first started traveling more he once mentioned that he would often look for us at the top of the escalators hoping we would be waiting with all the other people. I have traveled more this year than I have since I worked full time. On my last trip home I was on the final escalator and I was thinking how amazing it would …

Easy Like Sunday Morning

When I was little I was constantly making up plays, "sewing" purses with the stapler and rounding up the children in the neighborhood to play school. I also learned to be very resourceful. My mom would never buy the plastic high heel dress up shoes….so I would put blocks in my socks for heels. I am smiling as I write this because who would think of that? It gets better. I couldn't get my ears pierced until I was 13 …

Sisters

Madolyn is my only daughter. I am often struck with the realization that she will never grow up with a sister. She will never be blessed to be one of the first people in the world to hold her sister's new born baby, toast her at her wedding and raise their babies together. I have one sister and one brother. My sister and I have had our share of ups and downs. Our differences made our relationship difficult for many …

Summer Nights

Did you instantly visualize Danny and Sandy singing? Who has sung that song at karaoke night? Admit it…OK….if you aren't going to tell the truth than either am I! For some reason this week feels like we are finally on summer break. We have been busy cleaning out our house for a big neighborhood garage sale, me busy with the flea market etc. and this week we have just played. We have been seeing lots of friends and going …

What I Have Learned This Week

This week I have learned a few things…… *A three year old rarely actually hits the toilet. *My laundry is only caught up for 30 seconds and it starts all over again. *Never under ANY circumstance get on the scale during your period…EVER. *Having a baby fall asleep in your arms is still one of the most beautiful parts of life. *Drinking my morning coffee in a pretty cup makes it taste better. *Sometimes something can look like chocolate…and …

Have A Blessed 2009

We spent our New Year's Eve in the mountains with friends.  We had such a sweet time!  It was so nice to get a new perspective.  Isn't that what a fresh start each year is all about? As we were driving up the mountain we couldn't help but slowly get inspired to live more simply.  More real.  I have always felt that the mountains and their beauty simplify so much.  I never feel as close to God as I do when I …

A Wonderful Month Part II

OK, on with the multipy posts about our Month of December.  You would be so lucky to have it end on Part II.  Be prepared for sequels like Rocky!   My  dad with almost all of the Grandkids.  Benjamin and Grandpa Jerry   Me and the kiddos. A tradition that we love doing with the children is to go ice skating around Christmas.  The last couple of years we have taken them to different outdoor rinks, but this year because …

A Wonderful Month Part I

I have never had any posts that had to be divided into parts!  There were so many wonderful things that we did this month and I just didn't have time to blog about them.  I am playing a little catch up.  First of all, I hope each of you had a precious time with your friends and family and a sweet Christmas.  We always spend lots of days in December making gifts for our friends and family.  My daughter had …

Ten Years and Counting

10 1/2 years ago I watched a man walk into a bar and whispered to my friends, " I would like you to meet my future husband".  Six months later we were married, two years later we had our first of three children and now ten years after saying "I do" I would say it all over again.  I have the life I have always dreamed of.  I have the beautiful material things of life, but that is not what I am talking about.  I …
