Today, with my pumpkin spice latte in hand, we drove 2 hours away to an apple farm.
Yes, we could have gone to the grocery store and bought apples ….but this was a little more fun.
I would like to point out that we were about to drop the two youngest on the side of the road on the way there.
I was very tempted to say, "Don't make me turn this car around" or "I will give you something to cry about"……. but I refrained!
All was right with the world once we arrived at the farm and they could move those antsy legs of theirs.
We all filled our bags with delicious and beautiful apples.
They have 15 different varieties…I have no idea what I picked…to me they were apples.
After we were picked out we had a little lunch and then headed over to their pumpkin patch.
The only rule was that they had to carry whatever pumpkin they picked…seems fair to me.
As we were checking out with our pumpkins, apples (how many apple pies can one woman make?) and apple cider I asked the girls behind the counter if there were any good antique stores around.
Are there any good antique stores around???? They thought I was crazy…they said that there was a town TEN MINUTES AWAY with nothing but antique stores.
The sky opened up and angels began to sing….I ran back to my husband…yes, I really ran to him….and asked if we could please, pretty please with sprinkles go to the town.
After he said yes and all the children groaned …we headed to the town of Florence, Colorado.
I know my husband is awesome…I know.
And no, he does not have a girlfriend or some weird gambling problem that he is trying to cover up…he loves me….so there.
I am very good to him too…..if he would only start a blog and tell the world about my awesomeness!!!
OK…on with the day.
Once we were in Florence we went up one side of the street and then back down the other.
I went as fast as possible and would love to go back another day…without a two (almost three) year old.
So…what a day.
Beautiful weather, time together, apple picking, antique treasures and two trips to Starbucks.
What did you do this weekend?
Jeanne it looks like you had an amazing day with your family- don’t you love these lovely Autumn days?
We spent time with great friends and indulged in blueberry bread pudding with a Grand Marnier sauce and whipped cream- so good!
okay, first of all I think you’re on to something here!! I think our husbands must start blogs to tell the world how absolutely amazing we are!! 2nd. Glad you had so much fun and I’m sure that kids are glad they still have a home! ;0)
What a lovely day, Jeanne!
: )
Julie M.
ps So, how do you like them apples? (I think my tiny Minnesotan grandma used to enjoy saying that)
what a wonderful day you had with your family…i love those curls on your little guy…i hope you will show up next time what you found at the antique stores…a whole town of nothing but antique shops sounds heavenly to me!!!
What a fun day! We drove 150 miles on saturday to race his motorcycle just to turn around and come right back-not even unloading the bike. I never saw so much rain.
What a lovely weekend for you and your family. Yes, you lucky girl, you do have a good husband for being so supportive of your junking/antiqueing (wish I could say the same).
a good thing we have different readers.
You are too funny! Okay…there has been all this blogging about “The Pumpkin Spice Latte” so I finally broke away from my regular latte. Oh My Gosh! They are wonderful! Anyway, what I did this weekend…I gathered all my loot together to get ready for my Fall antique and art show. If you are in the area, stop by. http://www.remnantsofthepast.com

especially your daughter holding up the apple – too cute.
Looks like ya’ll had a blast. Can’t wait for cooler weather here. It’s still mid to high 80’s here.
Looks like fun…I can’t even tell you where the nearest apple orchard is! And, I think you left out something on this post…where are the goods you bought at the antique stores?
🙂
Jeanne…what a perfect day!
I knew immediately when you said pumpkin spice latte that you were talking Starbucks. Had one myself yesterday…yum! 2 hours to a apple farm. That’s stinky. One small bonus of living in NY…we have about 20 apple farms within 30 miles. 🙂
2 trips to Starbucks in one day…. so lucky!!! My son loves apples… he has 2 everyday… I need an apple orchard and he would be a like me in Starbucks! LOL
xo,
LuLu
pumpkin latte… apple picking… and thrifting… all in one day… i might have popped from sheer happiness!

i must find an apple picking place nearby… wonder if they can grow apples here is the boondocks! 🙂

First berry picking and now apple picking, I’m so impressed! Apparently I didn’t get the memo from you or Kasey saying that yesterday was apple day…I better get going. Loved all of the sweet pictures!
🙂 T
well i certainly didn’t have as much adventure as you did, you lucky girl!
i mostly sat around in my hormonally crazed nature these days and internally moaned about life between the really nice relaxing moments of idleness. For the most part it was so nice 🙂 (just wish i weren’t so cray-see lately)
those are some sweet, beautiful kids, but i have to say that that 2 (almost 3) year old is adorable!!=) so glad you got made it down, and you got to fit so much fun in (especially for yourself).=) that pumpkin spice latte sounds awesome right now!=) love you.
I love that last shot of the kidlets’ backs. Just lovely. What an awesome family day!
Oh what an awesome day, makes me miss when my kids were little! When Ash was little her aunt who was raised military babysat her and my nephews and when they were bad in the car, she would stop and make them run laps!…to this day she still does this with her 14 yr old son…laps around the house…seems to work?!
PS Pampered Chef has an awesome Apple Pie recipe complete with homemade crust of course! 🙂 My hubby makes these because he “loves” to use the apple peeler/corer/slicer! Ha!
Sounds like a perfectly, wonderful way to spend the day!
Such pretty photos of a lovely day in the orchard 🙂 There’s just something so relaxing about an orchard…
We are going on my 24th annual apple-picking trip in a few weeks! Thanks for whetting my appetite.
Oh what a lovely post and a lovely day 😉
Great photos of you and the kidlets! And you are definitely awesome! I wish my hubby would blog too!
Jeanne – what a FABULOUS day – and an amazing trip to Antiques-ville, CO! jealous.
I had an amazing weekend in the deep south. Today’s back to reality has been quite nice, actually – so, all’s well.
Seriously – you and Kasey apple picking this weekend – love it. I will enjoy my store-bought and think of you girls and all your fun memories of the picking!

ps are you going to show what you found in the shops? hope so 🙂
Sounds like a great family day! Apples…pumpkins and antiques oh my!!!!!! Adventures are fun and even better with the ones you love!
That sounds like the most amazing day. I’m so glad fall is here, especially pumpkin spice lattes! This weekend I took a weekend trip up to San Luis Obispo, CA where I used to live to visit friends. It is my favorite place in the world. It brings me peace and restores my spirit from the effects of living in L.A. I sat by the creek that runs through downtown SLO, listened to some live music next to the old mission with the most amazing weather and wished I could stay there forever.
I feel like saying I would have much rather picked apples….. But this weekend was a moment I will never get back. My daughter turned 15 and I took her and 3 of her friends to the mall,to eat, to the movies, to a different mall, to eat supper and to the book store…. All of which were things she decided. I gave the day to her. I have to say I snuck in a little antiquing while they were at the first mall. She is a special gem and was happy to make her day special. Love the pictures of your apple picking. Too cute. What a special day for you despite the ride…
I am always having problems with Typepad – so here I am happy to be able to comment on your blog using Facebook. Anywhoo – I love this post Jeanne! Your pictures are wonderful as per usual ~ especially love the one of the kids in the orchard.
OOHHHHHH I am so glad you found Florence! Did you see the Dicken’s piece I blogged about? I am so happy you found that little gem. And I do mean LITTLE. I’m jumping up and down that you found it! Silly I know but I’m really excited for you. Did you find anything good?????? (I know this was a week or two ago but I haven’t had time to check in-let me know(still jumping up and down)).
Are you bundled up today…Brrrrrrr……
Did it snow up there? I heard it was sleeting on Monument hill… I was so happy to put on long sleeves, a scarf, and boots. Yipppeee!
What a treasure of a day. One I’m sure they will take into the rest of their lives as the substance of youth.
