Welcome to An Artist In series. In this series a different artist, that is intimate in different parts of the world, will share their insider tips for where to eat, stay, see the best art, sketch the best views, rest at their favorite cafes and more. You will be able to go out and adventure here in the US and abroad and feel like your best friend shared the best kept secrets about an area and you can explore with confidence.
In this episode Julia Muller is sharing about her favorite spots exploring her stomping grounds of Brooklyn, NY.
Growing up on Long Island, Brooklyn was always a short ways away to what felt like a whole other world. It wasn’t until my late teens that I really began to fall in love with this place for its art, culture and cafes. There is so much beauty to be discovered in Brooklyn. These are some of my favorite spots!

Where To Eat
The food in Brooklyn has to be one of the best parts about it all. From Japanese to Scandinavian to French, there are so many places and categories of food to choose from. Head to Rule of Thirds for a beautiful design forward experience and try unique Japanese dishes; My favorite is the soufflé pancake with honey maple butter. Or head to Le Gamin or Le Crocodile and be instantly transported to France. The atmosphere, the people you are with, the music that is playing, the conversation that is being had, the food that is being served, is all sure to bring the magic…wherever you end up going!

Where To Shop
The streets of Brooklyn are filled with beautiful and unique coffee shops, restaurants and vintage stores waiting to be discovered. A lot of the magic comes from getting a bit lost, exploring the side streets and coming across shops or restaurants that we wouldn’t have known about if we didn’t look around. Go exploring and see what you find! I love finding one of a kind vintage and ceramics.

Where To See Art
While this museum is not part of Brooklyn, it is right next door in Queens! I highly recommend carving out time to go to The Noguchi Museum since it is so close. This is one of my favorite spots to be and the museum shop is just as special as the exhibitions. There is a Japanese garden with sculptures, rooms and rooms of Isamu Noguchi’s work and beautiful light that pours in through the windows. This museum and sculpture garden offers a place to slow down in the middle of busy city streets and it is fun to see how the gardens and light change through the seasons.

Brooklyn is beautiful any time of year but my personal favorite times are in Spring and Fall. The fresh blooms of spring in May add so much color and life to the streets and of course the autumn leaves in October/November are a whole other level of magic. Brooklyn is a special place. It is a place for artists, foodies, adventurers, cafe enthusiasts, vintage lovers, and those that love to explore.
