As a creative, one of my favorite things in the world is to step into the creative space of another. I love when an artist shares their space, how they use it, a peek into their favorite tools and even what they are currently working on. I hope you will join me in the An Artist Studio series!
I hope it will encourage you to cherish your own creating space. I started on the kitchen table, built our business in an unfinished basement, filmed our first courses in a transformed dining room, my last studio was huge and now much smaller. I know that I will find a creative space no matter where we go next or wherever we travel. The space you have is perfect if you are showing up and creating in it!
Previous studio tours: Sandi Hester, Diane Reeve and Jan McCarthy
This month we have been welcomed into the studio of Julia Muller.
Hello! Welcome to my studio! I love to fill my space with things that inspire me and that I have collected over the years. In the spring and summer I like to keep fresh flowers around of what is in bloom at the time. I love how these flowers set the tone for the space and how nature can inspire new ideas. One of my favorite things about this space is how the light pours in through the windows. In the winter, there is a golden light that glimmers at sunset, and in the warmer seasons the sunlight shines in as the sun rises.
A lot of my collections and items are vintage and come from tag sales or thrift stores where I live on Long Island or from traveling. Experiencing new cultures and places has a huge impact on my space, what I’m drawn to, and the art that I make. I am very inspired by seeing the world and I love collecting nostalgic heirloom pieces that have a story to them and remind me of a time or place.
Right now on the studio wall I have line drawings from a Matisse study and some in-progress paintings. I love seeing how this wall changes depending on what I am currently working on or inspired by.
With a degree in graphic design I enjoy little details and the visuals of an aesthetic and anything that is thoughtfully designed. This is my most happy and peaceful place to be! Lots of vintage books, canvases lying around, candles and sage burning, bowls of rocks and shells, vinyls spinning, my cats, sculptures and lots of art. It was important for me to create these corners that are separate for work, art and unwinding and also figuring out how they can coexist with one another.
I hope that this inspires you to create and curate your space the way that you want it! It doesn’t have to be a certain way and there is no wrong way to do it.
Whether you have multiple rooms in your home, a studio, a small room or just one corner – There are so many ways to get creative with what you have and make your space feel like you. 🙂

Such a lovely studio, and the view outside with trees must be inspiring too. Could you let me know what piano music was used in the video? It is simply divine!
The music we used was from Artlist. It is Silky Secrets by Tomer Lavie.
