Course Description

There can be this idea that artists go into their space and they create in a private bubble without outside influence. This idea that to not be inspired by others is somehow more pure. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Since the beginning of time artists have been inspired by the world around them, other artists, literature, day to day life, pain and joy and all of it goes into the studio with them. When they close their studio door all of the world swirls around them and impacts their work. The act of creating hushes the swirling world but its influence is still there.

Join me for a fascinating art workshop where we will study the work of Pablo Picasso and Francoise Gilot and the work that was created during their decade together. They were artists, lovers, and had children together. There was also betrayal. On this creative journey we will study how they each impacted the work of the other and what work they created as they broke away.

This workshop is for lovers of history, storytelling, art, techniques and the desire to understand the work artists create and the impact it has.

The workshop begins with a short history of Picasso and Gilot. We study multiple works of art by each artist and recreate some of their work. We then create a few pieces of original work inspired by the techniques of each of them.

We work in sculpture, woodblock printing, ink and acrylic.
