Wandering Muse | Sketching, Sculpting and Metalwork with Jeanne Oliver
Course Description
I do not know any other way to share art and life with you besides what I walk through myself and I want what I create to come from an authentic place of discovery and unraveling.
This course is inspired by my own journey of feeling lost but realizing I was wandering. That by doing and connecting I would find my way back and all of my wandering would make who I am, how I love and how I create to become so much more real and deep.
Not all those who wander are lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien
Inspiration is all around us but we have to be open to it. The cracking open of our hearts and minds and the letting go over the rules or what we think we should be focusing on. The breathing in deep and eyes wide open with expectations left far behind us. The desire to connect so deeply to who we are, where we want to go, and the art that we want to make that we aren’t afraid of the pouring out of us that will happen. The words, the lines, the strokes, the good and the ugly. The wandering from one part of who we are to the next. Following the muse without asking where are we going? To let the unraveling of who we are spill out and to interpret that into each part of what we create.
Join me as we follow the muse! When I was in Paris last I couldn’t get enough of the art and beauty that poured out of Rodin. As I strolled through the exhibit and out into the gardens I was taken on a journey on what inspired him. The processes were often raw and unfinished and these works moved me the most. From the sketches, sculptures in clay and wood, books made of plaster and metalwork I was pushed in a new way to connect all parts of what I am drawn to create.
In this online workshop, we will create a fabric + plaster book to hold our sketches and design elements. We will take cues from our sketches to interpret them into linocuts and prints. We will then bring those sketches to life through a sculpture in clay and wood. We will take our beginning marks and intertwine our sculptures with metalwork.
This journey will leave you more aware of YOUR hand and how when you are open to what you create it will propel you to create art that is like no one else.
