I Am a Maker Audio Prompts

When I am leading a live art workshop I often spend a little time inviting the artists into a time of creative warm-up. This is a time to get out of their heads and to see what is possible when we just begin and start to move paint around.

I often tease during these Freestyle Abstract warm-ups that I am bossing them around as I give prompt after prompt during a short period of time. What begins with reluctancy ends up being a room full of energy and creativity. Each piece is also as different as the artists that created them.

These warm-up prompts are not intended to be any form of final work but an open door to beginning, getting out of our own way, exploring new marks and sometimes even a hint of a direction to go in a new piece. We have also included a downloadable composition window so you can hover over these warm-up pieces and see if anything catches your eye.

Each warm-up prompt that is included is for you to download on your computer or phone and to use in your own practice. Gather your supplies, edit out what you don’t need, grab the cheapest piece of paper around or your favorite canvas. I wish I could be in your studio with you, but I guess this is the next best thing!
