Native Austinite Stephanie Jones Rubiano graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M at Galveston with a degree in marine biology. She worked as an environmental scientist for a major drilling company in Houston for five years afterwards. Therefore, it stands to reason that she has chosen art as her career path. Her love of nature and fascination with Victorian photography is apparent through her combination of images from antique natural history books and antique photographs in her mixed media works.
She has taught art workshops for the past 18 years at national art retreats such as Artfest, Art & Soul and Art Continuum and has recently turned her attention to creating online workshops so that she may create and interact with a larger audience. Stephanie and her artwork have been featured in books and magazines such as Where Women Create, Somerset Studio, Cloth Paper Scissors and Belle Armoire and won awards at juried fine art festivals. She recently made her television debut on the popular (in Texas!) show, Texas Country Reporter, where she filled a 5:42 minute segment with a peek into her home and creative process. Stephanie lives with her tolerant husband, Paul, and firecracker daughter, Fiona, in the suburbs of Austin, assiduously avoiding letters from her HOA regarding yard art.
