An Open Book

IMG_6659a

I have seen this on a few blogs and I thought it would be fun.

If you have questions….I have answers.

I am pretty much an open book anyways.

Do you have a question about starting a business, decorating, fashion, creating, homeschooling????

Ask whatever you want.

I will answer the questions on Monday, January 18.

I can't wait to hear what you have been wondering.

At least you have figured out that I am younger than you might have thought…and my name is NOT Jeanneoli:-)

My question: What were 2-3 of the most important things you believe you did to get your creative business started in the beginning?
Action is my word for 2010. So asking this will help me as I feel I am to do something more with my art and creative desires. Did you start an Etsy store first etc..?

I have always wondered what your creative “space” looks like. Do you have a craft room or studio where you create? Would you be willing to share photos? 🙂
I would also love some words of wisdom for someone interested in starting a creative business- think- business license, copyright stuff, etc.
    Thanks!

  18. Suzen

Hi Jeanne! Do you have any resources for a novice blogger? Fr’example, my photos are not punchy enough and I fixed them on Picasa, but can’t seem to get them someplace I can retrieve them and put on my blog. Maybe you just think I should switch to Typepad? Patience, patience….

  19. Sherry Williams

One thing I wonder about, is how creative women…who run businesses balance the financial part of it all. In order to start up something, you need supplies. Did you collect things over the years and then just start using those to get yourself out there? Do you think most women use family money/extra/fun money to start and then go from there and then try to stick with using the profits of what you sell? I don’t have a lot to start up with and I find myself dipping in my family fun money more then I’d like. and then paying us back…and then borrowing again for more supplies. The goal is to exist on my own. 🙂 I’m just curious how you started out. There is so much to be tempted by. So much that one could think they need in order to make their creative stuff even better.
Maybe I know my own answers–use what you have, do your best, get yourself out there. 🙂 I’d just love to know how you keep it all balanced, once you start.
thanks for answering questions. what a great idea. 🙂

Home school is something I always think about and admire all who do it… do you have a teaching background. Math and Science are my childrens favorite subjects and that alone has me terrified… i’m terrible in those subjects.
do you ever make lampshades? I can see your ruffles and rosettes on a lampshade.
Does your family live near you to help out when you are working on your business?
Are you going to Farm Chicks in June?

i, too, would love to hear about how you balance your business and family. i often feel guilty when i devote time to my creative passion. family and art are both very demanding of time and energy. do you have any advice about balancing a full life? what works for you?
i’d also love to hear where you get some of your inspiration.
thanks, and i love your blog.
    katie

  32. Crystal

Wow, I can’t believe I just found your blog. I am becoming a follower. So I will remember ato absolutely return on Monday.
All the questions I am interested in are growing my blog, starting an Etsy and possible a “business”?
How did you figure out your niche for your blog?
Did you ever have any fear of being liked, or the things you blog, not being liked?
I have so many ideas swirling around in my head. How do you settle on what you want/can do?
Looking forward to all the answers 🙂
    Have a blessed day!

  33. Becky G.

When did you feel confident enough in your creative/artistic abilities to start calling your space your ‘studio’? I call my space that to myself, but feel weird calling it that to other people.

  34. Lana Dunkerley

~my mom’s name was Chloe (long O and no “e”) Jeanne (like Jean)
Ppl always said her name wrong…poor sweetheart…
    Ok, I digress…my question would be…
are all the ppl that comment on your blog your friends? strangers like me? how did you get so much blog traffic…
and if you could re-name yourself…
what name would you choose and why…
Love the blog! It’s a true FAV!
    🙂

  35. Christi

Wow! What a fun idea! I have a million questions, but I’ll narrow it down..
~ Would you recommend typepad or blogger for someone wanting to start a blog and an etsy shop?
~Any tips for saving photos on your computer for your blog?
~What would be your biggest piece of advise for selling on etsy?
~Where did you get that cute striped sweater you wore to Brave Girl Camp? So cute!
~What is the color on your dining room walls? Lovely! and where did you find that beautiful chandelier?
Thanks for sharing with us! I can hardly wait to read all the answers!

How is a weblog different from a website? I never thought you were a granny. Ever.

  37. Nancy

I want to know if you earn enough money doing a home business to sustain yourself, or are you able to do this line of work because of your husbands income? I SOOOOO want to be home, doing something creative, instead of a reluctant government employee. We have been work on paying off all debt, but want to have some hope that it could be possible for me to be at home!
    Nancy

  38. DreamGirlLisa

    Two questions:
    1. How did you get the “word out”, so to speak about your business without having a store front?
    2. How do you get the music player on your blog? I LOVE the music selection you have playing, it just really adds to the experience when I’m reading your blog. 🙂

  39. Amy

I know my question is a little late but that is just me…Anyways, I would love to know how you balance it all. Kids, creating, blogging, housework… I am trying to find that balance right now without staying up into the wee hours of the night trying to get it all done & happy for all to be around! Thanks for opening up. I have come to realize there are so many of us going through the type of emotions right now. Thank you for opening up your world to us.
