Extraordinary

IMG_5630a

When we were all little we dreamed of being the best at something.

I dreamed of being a painter, writer and actress.

I was the director, star and choreographer of every neighborhood play…hard to imagine I know:-)

I dreamed of showing my art in a gallery, writing a hugely successful novel or singing on Broadway.

I didn't dream of being mediocre.

Sometimes as we grow up we can forget the beautiful dreams we had for ourselves, the days blend together and gifts are forgotten.

I have seen on many blogs and Facebook that many of you are picking words for this year.

I don't do resolutions but I love picking a word that defines what I want for myself in the coming year.

This year I pick "extraordinary".

The definition for extraordinary is

{highly unusual or exceptional or remarkable}

I love words and these words are so inspiring.

I want my relationship with my husband to be highly unusual, exceptional, remarkable.

I want my children to look back on their days in our home as highly unusual, exceptional, remarkable.

If you are my dear friend I want you to know that you are treasured and our friendship is REMARKABLE.

I want to cherish the creative gifts I have and do something EXCEPTIONAL with them.

I want to spend time with the Lord each day and know that my relationship with Him is EXTRAORDINARY.

I want to focus on what is truly important and give my time and energy to these things and do them in such a way that they become highly unusual or exceptional or remarkable!!

Do you have a word for this year?

Well, clearly my word *should* be “forgetful” as I clearly forgot that we were going to talk this week! Drat. Boys going back to school this coming week so let’s find a time to catch up!
My word this year is ASPIRE. I have so many dreams and plans and aspire fits in perfectly~
Happy New Year to you my sweet – may it be an EXTRAORDINARY one!
    xx

Great word…and I agree with Courtney!
My phrase is “Back to Basics”…tried and true…so very true…
    Home
    Family
    Spirit
    Friends
    Nature
    Food
    Garden
    Art
And not necessarily in that order!
    xxoo,

I just found your blog-from reading Blogging for Bliss (yay! awesome!) and I believe that you already *are* extraordinary! I’ve meandered a bit here and you are a great inspiration. Hmmm..so…a word for the year…I’m liking: “magnificent”, “inspired”, &”blessed.”
    Thanks for the encouragement.
    ~Andee

  4. Dore

    My word is “CHANGE!”
    Or Soulful…
    You are amazing Jeanne!
Keep inspiring your beauty through your eyes!
    xoxo

  5. Julie M ~ The Little Red Shop

I think your word is lovely, Jeanne. For this year, I hope to make the most of everything God has given me…everything He puts in my path. I want to enjoy each moment as I’m in it and put into place all of the gifts, resources….(and mess) I have on my plate. Hmmm…my word hasn’t come to me yet…but the Word has, that’s the most important thing. That is the happiest thing of all!
    Happy New Year!
    : )
    Julie M.

  6. Martha

I think your word is wonderful…love that…Happy New Year Jeanne…and may your year be extraordinary!

Dear Jeanne, I do believe that the measure of good art is how in line with ourselves we are in the creation of it. I believe that the source of “block” is that we cannot get out of our own way and be present to our own inspiration. All those critical shaming voices get in the way. This is a monumental task and one that I feel very few artists really master fully. (That would decidely include me!) I do believe that there is someone somewhere who can appreciate and “hear” whatever we create. There is a place of each of us at the table of life. As for my new year, I intend to give more of my income to charities I believe in. So I guess my word would be “generousity.” XOXO Suzen

Jeanne, What a great word! I have loved following your blog and have been so inspired by you! I too have chosen my word for the year… It is “Intentional”! And thanks for the push, I have been meaning to blog about it, too;) At church yesterday, the pastor talked about being “significant” and how we are not, but that we serve a very significant God who can do significant things through us!! I love that!! So even in times that we don’t feel “significant” or “extraordinary” or “magnificent”, God always will be for us!! Many many blessings to you and your family this year, Jeanne!!

so fun to read your post, jeanne, and the comments. i don’t know if i can sum my desires in one word, but i like the idea. it gives a meaningful focus to the time ahead. with your/this desire in all aspects of this life, how can you not be left closer to god’s calling in your life!?

  10. Great word Jeanne ~ great post! I picked SING ~ sing out loud ~ do something that makes you heart sing ~ I think I need this….

  11. Amy

    Dear Jeanne,
And extraordinary you are! I ordered a messenger bag from you in December and attached to my package was a hand-written note with the word “intentional” written on it. That little word literally changed how I lived this Christmas season. I have only just begun to delve into the work that goes into truly living an intentional life. So my word this year is “intentional.” Thank you for the inspiration!

  12. Brandie

Love this post Jeanne! I just got done posting about my outlook on this new year on my blog too. My word is the same as your’s(will be blogging on that next week) but I have a question that I am focusing on this year too as well as a phrase(will be blogging that one later this week). The question, what would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? and the phrase, I am enough. I so wish I knew you in real life. I think that you are right, we would be the best of friends:) I went to school for musical theatre and always saw myself on Broadway. I am a dreamer and I dream BIG! It is time I started living big too.
    Happy new year friend:)

You ALWAYS write the best posts! Extraordinary! Looks like you’ve already begun meeting this goal.
Our words, my husband and I, are “Discipline and Direction”. We just discussed it in length last night. Looking forward to 2011. Thanks, Jeanne.

very cool dear Jeanne….but I already think you ARE “highly unusual” (aka extraordinary) lol
did you get that listing I sent? I expect a full report in the morning ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Carol

Extraordinary is a word that I love and have used this past year with my staff. I work woth college students and I tell them that they are all extra/ordinary….when they work with customers they need to go above the ordianry. I try to pass that on to them in all aspects of their life. Anyone can be ordinary..but we can all work at making others feel extraordinary! Thank you for your wonderful blog.

  17. stephanie

i want to be exceptional too..i had a major breakthrough on sunday about abandonment and i think it is a huge clue to many of the things i struggle with..so my words are hopeful and do..

  18. Michelle Moldowan

You are done! You made it! Pick another word… because, my friend, you ARE extraordinary.
    Much love!

  19. Lea

My word is appreciate. Appreciate – is to be thankful or grateful for.
I am going to appreciate my husband more, appreciate my daughter more, and simply appreciate all that life has to offer. A friend of mine unexpectedly passed away a few days after Christmas and I realized how much I take everything forgranted. Time is short so I will appreciate what is really important to me each day!

  20. Lisa

Love your word Jeanne, and I especially loved the line ” I didn’t dream of being mediocre”
I was just having this conversation with my daughters the other day, that I don’t want to just be average, I want to make a difference and do something spectacular with my life…oh, hey, mabye that’s my word for the year????
Thanks, as always, for the inspiration and food for thought, you truly are extraordinary!!

  21. chrissy

happy new year beautiful sister and friend.
i LOVE your word and all it.s meanings as it twists and turns it.s way into your 2011 life.
i haven.t TOTALLY decided on a word yet, but i think it is leaning towards…
    TRUST.
i stamped that on my little leather bracelet i made at brave girls and i wear it all the time and that word just resonates within me right now.
    i love you so.
your blog is always soooo inspiring.

  23. Zita - Mlle Magpie

Love your word for 2011, though it looks like you’ve pretty much achieved that, dear Jeanne ๐Ÿ™‚ My word for the new year is “healthy”. My “healthy” will also include things like contentment, gratitude and humor too.

  24. Talia

What a word! Extraordinary – just what you are! ๐Ÿ™‚
I have chosen ‘standards’…as in raise them! I want to best from those in my life. I have the best friends, the best children, but others in my life have been less than good, kind, loving or even decent to me. No more. It is time for me to raise my standards and no longer accept less than the best from those in my life…
    Cheers to 2011!

  25. lulu

Great word!!! You will fulfill your word too this year, I just know it. My word is potential…..full potential, can t wait to see how the year unfolds.
    Xo,
    LuLu

  26. MEG DUERKSEN

    beautiful word.
i need to ask God for a word for me this year.
between your music and your words…i am tearing up.
    lovely jeanne.
    just lovely.

  27. lulu

I have a phrase, I will live and speak my own truth, most of my friends that I have mentioned this to roll their eyes and ask, “how much more can we take?”. Can not wait to see you again. L

  28. sandy B.

Thank you so much for sharing this.
    Just beautiful.
Today I checked out your posts for the first time.
    I LOVE it!
My word(s) for this year is…
    Wait
    Be
    Still
Something I really have to learn
    Patience…
Wait for Him – my Lord to guide which door to open.
