{all art is property of Katie Kendrick}

I have had a hard time keeping this exciting news to myself.

Within this past year I have been introduced to the mixed media artist Katie Kendrick.

I love her style and I can relate to many of her creative processes.

I only read her blog a few months ago and the last post that she had written was written while she was in Castle Rock (my town) waiting for her grandson to be born.

I had let Katie know that the next time she comes to visit her daughter and grandchildren that I would love to host a class if she was up for it.

Not only is Katie up for it but she will be visiting in May.

Lucky us!

I will be hosting a Katie Kendrick art class in my home on May 18th.

Here is a little more information about Katie and the class….

Katie Kendrick lives along the banks of the Tahuya River in western Washington, surrounded by the Tahuya State Forest. The peaceful beauty of the nature that surrounds her is a constant source of inspiration and nourishment for her creative spirit. She finds art making to be one of the most powerful ways to connect with her innermost essence, while at the same time discovering her authentic voice. She enjoys the experimental and intuitive layers of creating, where she can explore inner and outer worlds simultaneously. She has a passion for sharing her love of creating with others, and teaches mixed media workshops across the U.S. Her work has been featured in several books and magazines and her book, ?Layered Impressions: A Mixed-Media Approach to Painting and Poetry?, was released in 2012. You can learn more about her and her work atwww.joyouslybecoming.typepad.com

The Inspired Brush; Painting with Passion

Katie Kendrick class description:

In this 6 hour class we’ll revel in the odd and curious, the unpredictable, and all that lies a smidge off-center. In other words, with paint brushes loaded, we’re each going to march to the beat of our very own drum. We will spend some time exploring line and paint, using the images of the masters as our jumping off place, with the understanding that our goal is NOT to copy or try to reproduce those works in any way, but to use them as a resource, to gather information about color, shape, and design preferences, a tool to use to help unearth our own unique styles. Much of the day will be spent working on background techniques, drawing and painting faces, people, and objects, with pencils, brushes, and fingers, adding elements of collage when inspired to do so. This is an intuitive based painting class with technique to inspire your creative flow; it is well suited to all levels, including beginners.
