Supply List

A canvas substrate of your choice that is one or more of the following:

• A finished, grommeted, ready-to-paint, canvas mural hand made by me here! (Limited supply).
• Duck cloth, Painter’s Drop cloths or other heavy weight fabric
• Pre-primed artist canvas sold by the foot, yard, or on a roll

When determining how much canvas to purchase, calculate the size you want the finished piece to be and then add extra yardage for your border pieces. For example, lets assume that I want a finished canvas that measures 3’ x 5’ with a double layer border of 2” strips. If my fabric is sold on the bolt at 60 wide, then I will need to purchase 1 yard to give me that 3’ x 5’ main canvas PLUS an additional 16” of fabric to create 8 2” strips to go around the whole perimeter in a double layer. This will make much more sense when you see the video where I explain it but for now, it should be enough to buy 25% more fabric than what the finished size you want your mural to be.

• Grommet tool and ½” grommets (I used these antique brass ones) hammer
• White gesso (I like Liquitex)
• 4-6” or smaller foam paint roller (either a craft type or a house paint type)
• Scissors (nice and sharp for cutting fabric)
• Roll of thin painter’s plastic for protecting your surfaces
• Artist brushes
• Acrylic paint in your favorite colors (Latex house paint samples are also great and what I primarily use in this class but acrylics work just as well. I always like including a white of some variety and Raw Umber.) Masking tape

Optional:

• Vintage or collected collage papers
• Matte Medium or Matte Gel Medium (I like Liquitex)
• Sewing Machine
• Iron
• Cutting mat, Rotary cutter, and cutting ruler
• Heavyweight thread such as embroidery floss, cotton perle, or book binding twine
• Bookbinder’s or Tapestry needle
• Plastic spreader
• Scraps of interesting patterned fabric to add to your mural border
• ½” – ¾” Dowel the same length as the width of the top of your mural
