Quirky Characters: Supply List - Jeanne Oliver

Supply List

Basic Supply List
You will find these basic supplies needed for many of the projects in this course.

Your favorite journal. I love Piccadilly sketch journals. You can find one at Target but I also use Canson drawing and sketching journals, as well as Strathmore 400 Series Sketch pad. I like the 5.5×8.5 inch wire bound journal. Just make sure your paper has a little “tooth” to it, and that it’s not too smooth. A Moleskine will work, but I love it more for pen sketching, instead of pencil sketching. If you don’t want to work in a journal, you can use drawing paper, blank index cards, or anything at your disposal. I would recommend using what you love.

You will need at least one sheet of Bristol paper, smooth watercolor paper, or mixed media paper for one of our lessons.

Mechanical pencil. Find one that you love to use.  I love most Pentel mechanical pencils, but my favorite is the Pilot G-2 07 Mechanical pencil. You can find them at the grocery store, Target, or Amazon.

Blending stump or tortillon, you can find a nice set at Michaels or Amazon

Colored pencils. You can use any kind you love, but I recently found the PaperMate Clearpoint Color Lead Mechanical pencils and I LOVE them.

Cretacolor Monolith pencils. This isn’t a must-have item, but if you do have them, please use them. They are wonderful for this kind of drawing. Any woodless graphite pencil will do. General brand also makes a nice woodless graphite pencil set that you can find at a local Michaels store or online.

Eraser included with mechanical pencil or Kneaded eraser. Please do not use the red erasers that come on a school #2 yellow pencil. Eraser Sticks are great too, and can be found on Amazon.

Permanent PensMicron pens 005, Staedtler pens 005, Prismacolor pens, Faber Castell Pitt Pen XS…all of these have permanent ink and will not bleed when wet. I love the ones with a finer line, but use whatever you are comfortable with. Most of these can be found on Amazon or at your local Michaels or art store.

Pens with water soluble ink. Derwent Graphik Line Maker, can be found in art stores and on Amazon or you might like the Uniball Vision Elite can be found in grocery stores, or Target stores, or online at Amazon

White Gel Pen. I love the Uniball Signo pen. If you don’t have a white gel pen, you can try using a while colored pencil, pastel pencil, or even white crayon. Though the white lines won’t be as thin or bright.

A small paint brush and a cup of water

Optional supplies used in video lessons

Koh In Noor Magic Pencils, you can find them at the art store on online on Amazon

Derivan Liquid Pencil found at art stores on online at Amazon

Optional for Liquid Pencil … Folk Art Brushed Metal craft paint from Michaels 5167E Brushed Dark Gray, or any dark metallic gray craft paint might work. Get as close to graphite color as you can.

Derwent Inktense Pencil, your favorite color

General’s Sketch and Wash Pencil, or Stabilo Marks All Pencil (or any water soluble pencil, or watercolor pencil)

As always, please use the supplies you have. The most important supplies for this class, a mechanical pencil, blending stump, eraser, and a good permanent pen with a thin line. And a journal of your choice.
