Let’s spend the beginning of 2026 together on the most gorgeous island of Kauai. I have three favorite spots in the world, and this is one of them!

This beautiful retreat is being hosted by the incredible Shannan Morgan of Artfully Gathered! When Shannan asked if I would come and be a part of her Kauai workshop it was an immediate yes because of who she is! She is so fun, funny, adventurous, has a heart for women and Jesus!

This workshop only has a few spots left!

Workshop with Jeanne Oliver Description:

I have always been drawn to objects with history and pieces that tell a story. I am fascinated by old closed up buildings, what is behind broken old factory windows, old gardens with creaky gates and walls with layers of plaster and paint.

In this workshop we will gather our supplies and start creating our own story of this place filled with history, beauty and layers. We will explore dyeing, mark making, collage and stitching as we create our book. We will incorporate plaster, encaustic medium and wire as we bring our books and stories to life.

In between our bookmaking we will grab our hand stitched journals that we will make and head to the shore to learn how to create quick thumbnail sketches, contour sketches and abstract impressions of our surroundings.

Techniques Taught

  • Using plaster gauze to create texture and substrates

  • Mark making and incorporating it into your work

  • Stitching on fabric

  • Magazine altering

  • Working with vintage ephemera

  • Mark making on tracing paper

  • Adding calcium carbonate to your work

  • Sealing your work with cold wax or encaustic medium
