I have several Kate Thompson works of art in our own home and the more you look, the more you see. What from a distance looks likes a portrait soon becomes lines, texture, layers, history, wire, plaster, and most importantly…a story. Kate is a master at breaking down the face and then adding the most unique elements back into the work. Grab your favorite collections of vintage ephemera, old pieces of cloth, and maybe even a little plaster, and let’s create faces with Kate Thompson!

Instant Access for Deconstructed Faces with Kate Thompson. Registration is $62. The course is 5 hours of content. Come and read all about it. All videos are downloadable, lifetime access* and closed captioning.

In this course Kate will be working on two faces. One is painted and the other one is a pencil drawing.

Kate will show you how to render the pencil drawing using the cross hatching technique. You will be supplied with a line drawing of this face which makes this technique applicable to all levels. The other face will be painted in gray values. Image transfers will be created and torn to add to the face creating a deconstructed , layered piece of art. Kate shows you several embroidery techniques to bring the transfer pieces together.

The pencil sketch portrait has several layers of fabric strips applied to the face with added stitching to embed everything. It’s quite a bit more colorful than the first one.
