Supply List

  • 2 5×7 cardboard pieces
  • One roll plaster gauze
  • 5×7 piece of fabric (I will be using a 5×7 piece of bookbinding fabric and then a piece of 1.5″ x 7″ raw canvas for the binding)
  • For those that want to embellish their artist’s junk journal I will be using a 5×7 piece of vintage French linen
  • Bookbinding glue or tacky glue
  • Magazine pages, random papers (think tracing paper, kraft paper, grocery bags, watercolor papers etc. whatever you have on hand), photocopies of your own work, pieces of your original art, papers with your marks, stitched pieces of fabric, gathered pieces like old photos, Polaroids, postcards etc. Cut all pieces to be around 5×7 and don’t worry if some are a little bigger or smaller.
  • Calcium carbonate or plaster of paris (I will be using calcium carbonate)
  • White gesso
  • Needle and thread
  • Thin metal if you want to embellish the spine of your journal
  • Cold wax or encaustic medium to seal the cover
  • Paintbrush to apply the glue
  • Stencils or stamps if you want to add words to your magazine pages
  • Nevr-Dull wadding polish
  • Carbon paper and white transfer paper
  • Gelli plate (Don’t buy one until you have seen the demo. We are doing simple color blocks)
  • Electric skillet (optional and only used for encaustic medium)
