The Inspired Line: Supply List - Jeanne Oliver

Supply List

One of the beauties of this medium is the simplicity of it. I encourage you to start with a black ink pen and a piece of smooth paper and to work outwards from there, adding materials to your collection only as the need arises.

My kit:

  • Pens (an assortment of sizes in a variety of colors.)
  • Uniball Eye (Micro and Fine) in black and blue are my preference but choose the colors that stir your imagination and creative longing
  • Uni Pin Fine Liners are another good option
  • Dip pen with a smattering of metal nibs (Speedball has many good starter packs)
  • Pencils
  • Bottle of Lefranc & Bourgeois black drawing ink (additional colors by Parker if you feel inspired)
  • Small refillable bottle for your ink
  • Brushes (small round brushes along with one larger flat brush)
  • Eraser (I love a kneadable eraser along with a standard rubber eraser)
  • Paper towel
  • Drawing board or small piece of light wood
  • Sketchbook (something small and portable to carry with you)
  • Hahnemuhle Nostalgie or Moleskine are my favorites
  • Arches Watercolor Paper 300 gsm (or an equivalent cotton paper with a smooth finish, in the size that feels right for you.)
  • Paper for sketching and warmups (Fabriano is a good option)
  • Small bowl for mixing water and an ink ruler
